My site uses Frames. What's the best way to promote it?

Some search engines reportedly have some problems with indexing framed sites. Mostly this is a thing of the past, but here's what I suggest.

First, make sure you have good meta tags and titles on both the FRAMESET page and the interior framed pages.

Promote the FRAMESET page to the search engines and the indexes.

Then promote the interior framed pages to the search engines ONLY.

Add a little bit of Javascript to the interior pages so that they check to see if they are framed, and if they aren't, they redirect the browser to the FRAMESET page. That way, if someone surfs in to the inside page, they get sent to the framed version automatically.

Here's some sample Javascript:

BODY onLoad="if (top == self) top.location.href = '';">

You would change the to the appropriate URL for the page you want them to go to, of course.

A more detailed explanation of the various ways this can be done can be found in this excellent article.
