To give you a taste of how cool the Secret Net Tools are (you have to
contribute to get access to all of them), I've enabled your access to several of
the simpler ones. Enjoy!
Believe it or not, 11.13% of the people who use SelfPromotion.com support the site!
Have I got a domain name for you!
The domain name sniffer is a simple tool that makes it easier for you to determine
if domain names are available, as well as check out a variety of permutations on
domain names.
You can use it in one of two ways; if you simply enter a list of
words into one of the boxes below (and leave the other one blank)
as well as check off the desired suffixes (.com, .org and/or .net), it will check
to see if those domains are available. However, if you put a list of words in
both boxes, it will try all the combinations of the words in the
first box and the second box.
New: you can optionally have "-" added between the words.
For example:
If you enter "fred" and "barney" into the first box, and check .org and
.net, the sniffer will check "fred.org", "fred.net", "barney.org" and "barney.net".
If you enter "fred" and "barney" into the first box, "flintstone" and "rubble" into
the second box, and check .com, the sniffer will check "fredflintstone.com", "barneyflintstone.com",
"fredrubble.com" and "barneyrubble.com".
Tip: to find "internetty" domain names, put prefixes like "i",
"e", "i-", "e-", "web", "net", "meta", "hyper" and so on in the first box, and interesting
words in the second box.
Note: Domain names may only contain the letters a-z, the
digits 0-9, and the dash (-) character. If you enter other characters into the
form, they'll automatically be removed. Also, a domain name cannot start or end
with a dash, or contain two or more dashes in a row. If you try that, the domain
name will be flagged as invalid.
NOTE: entering big lists of words in both boxes and checking
multiple root domains (.com, .net and .org) will generate a large number of
combinations to check. To avoid being rude and placing a large demand on the
Network Solutions whois servers, if the total number of combinations (number of
words in the first box * number in the second box * number of selections checked) is greater than 60,
the check will not be done.
Currently, this tool only works for .com, .net and .org domains. Also, since
it does the queries "while-you-wait" it may take a while to run if you enter a lot of
domain names or ask it to do a lot of combinations.
As this is a new and experimental secret net tool, your comments and suggestions are
much appreciated.
This site was developed on a Macintosh, programmed in
WebSiphon, and served
by WebStar. The author,
on those exceedingly rare occasions when he does think, indeed thinks differently.
It looks (and works) better when you use version 4.0
or better of Netscape Navigator or
Internet Explorer, but can
be used with any tables-capable browser.
